It All Started With Butterick Sewing Patterns

Butterick sewing patternsBefore Butterick sewing patterns were all one size. Women had to enlarge or reduce the size of the pattern to fit their needs. It was not an easy task. In 1863 Mrs. Butterick was trying to make a dress for her baby son and mentioned to her husband, a tailor, how much easier it would be if the pattern were the actual size she needed. This gave him the idea to create the first graded sewing patterns which not surprisingly, became a big hit. Three years later they expanded to women's dress patterns and they were enthusiastically received. Soon, they expanded to include dresses, jackets and capes in 13 sizes. Today, you can still find top quality Butterick sewing patterns for all your needs in high fashion designs.
